JANMASHTAMI CELEBRATION

Janmashtami is the largest celebration in the regions of Mathura and Vrindavan where Krishna is believed to have been born.

Krishna Janmashtami or Janmashtami is a Hindu festival celebrated to mark the birth of Krishna, an avatar of Vishnu. This year festival is celebrated on 11th August in 2020. According to the Hindu lunar calendar, the festival on the eighth day (Ashtami) of the Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) in the month of Shraavana.

Janmashtami is the largest celebration in the regions of Mathura and Vrindavan where Krishna is believed to have been born. It is typically celebrated by fasting and devotional singing at midnight when Krishna was born. After Krishna’s midnight hour birth, statues of baby Krishna are washed, clothed and placed in a cradle for worship. Devotees then break their fast after midnight by sharing food and sweets. Young boys dress up as Krishna and girls as Radha, Krishna’s paramour, on this day.

Ideas to celebrate JANMASHTAMI in School

Nowadays, this festival is celebrated in school with full of devotion. Here are some ideas how to celebrate this :

1. Fancy Dress Competition. (Dressed as a krishna or radha)

2. Matki Decoration

3. Rangoli Competition.

4.  A skit, with diverse ‘Leelas’ of Sri Krishna.

5. Dance performances (by kids or by teachers)

6. Matki Phod (by senior students)

7. A skit by the students, depicting the birth of Krishna.

8. Song / Bhajan performance by the choir group related to the deity. 

But Nowdays as lockdown going on all over India and schools are closed till further notice. We really don't know when schools will reopen. So if this happens till august in that case we all will celebrate this festival at home with full enthusiasm and faith. Children can send their pictures dressed up as Radha or Krishna to their class teachers or record some speech, song, bhajans etc and send those to their teachers. This will make our students aware related to this festival and they will not feel aloof.
