International Yoga Day Celebration Ideas

How to celebrate International Yoga Day in School

Established in 2015 following a proposal by the Indian Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi, in his address to UN General Assembly on 27 September 2014. He said, “Yoga is an invaluable gift of India’s ancient tradition. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfillment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being. It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and the nature. By changing our lifestyle and creating consciousness, it can help in well being.”
International Yoga Day is celebrated on 21 June every year. This is the day of the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere with special significance in many parts of the world and in the yogic tradition.
Everyone will gather together all over the world to celebrate yoga. By attending large gatherings, supporting special classes in local studios, participating in online events or celebrating alone through a home practice, yoga practitioners everywhere can take this opportunity to show gratitude for the major power of yoga in their own lives and to shout about the benefits of yoga.
The modern-day lifestyle brings with itself tremendous pressure among students to outperform and stay ahead in the competition, which usually takes toll on the students’ health. Therefore, its endeavor to develop students holistically promotes the practice of Yoga among the students with the belief that Yoga has the power to boost learning, increase concentration and release stress. The school ensures students undertake Yoga sessions and practice meditation to encourage fitness as a way of life.” CBSE also introduced Yoga as an elective subject in the curriculum with an aim to teach students a way of living that helps in developing a healthy mind and body.
